Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A container truck caused panic and traffic disruption on National Highway No. 16 after it lost control and crossed over to the opposite lane near Salap crossing in Howrah’s Domjur area. The incident occurred while the truck was en route to Dankuni and tried to avoid colliding with a car.
In the process of swerving, the truck crashed into the road divider on the Dhulaghar-bound side, triggering chaos on both flanks of the highway. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but the damaged vehicle and scattered debris created a significant traffic jam in the area.
Eyewitnesses said the truck was moving at high speed and lost balance while overtaking another vehicle. The impact of the collision with the divider was loud enough to draw local residents and passersby to the scene, adding to the commotion.
Police and highway authorities soon arrived to clear the road and redirect traffic. Efforts are underway to remove the truck and fully restore movement on the busy highway corridor.
